What are the advantages of the ice fly reel versus a spinning reel?

Put in two words line twist. The fly reel or level wind reels don,t impart twist into your line as spinning reels do. Your bait or jig hangs still not spinning around due to twisted line.

Well the ice gear is out in the stores and I saw an entire pond skimmed over this morning. The itch is in full swing. Luckily the Fall river Walleyes are on fire right now. Cmon cold snap!

I searched for the new HT tightline combo but they don't appear to be available yet, then it occurred to me I have several old fly reels, gonna definitely give this tightlining a try this season.

I just want ice, we had some cold weather back in Oct., was hoping for an early season start.
Food, bait & fuel--$50
Driving to the ice--10min-1.5hrs
Smile on my sons face, racing to a flag--priceless

Him laughing, playing, and enjoying our time together--indiscribable.

Be it hunting, fishing, or whatever, time with him always well spent.

Does putting out tip-ups on home made floating rafts count?  :?

I remember a year or two ago  FM said that he was getting ready to start drilling holes in his driveway! LOL! I'm beginning to feel like that.
