Here's a couple more; not from this year but a good example of how they change color to blend in. The first group came from a dark stained and super weedy lake.

This one came from a clear lake with a lot less weed cover:

Got these yesterday on a large private lake. It was hard to weed through the gills since they were biting all day. I caught eight crappie out of six different holes up to 50 yards apart, and tossed the last one back for the future. The cool part was I got most of them from 10-11:30 in the am on a sunny day. ??? I was fishing thick cover and the water was stained, but I've had some tough days there before. Left several nice jigs  and spoons in the brush. :P The gills turned on so heavy it was hard to get a jig down past five or six feet, but sadly most were on the smaller size. I tossed back several 8 in. fish though; the size of the one in the pic.

First fish of the day

BTW the ice was 20in. plus near Mt. Pocono. The auger is still several inches from the water

Nice outing today after taking some food to my 91 year old mother. Fished a private lake near Mt. Pocono that has been closed to ice fishing for a few years.
Hit the ice around 1:30 and caught a decent gill right away but released him anyway. Put my best Mr. Jigger set up in that hole with a slender spoon and fathead combo. It picked up the slack till late afternoon when there was a decent jigging bite producing four nice crappie before I pulled it because it seemed I was going to get what I came for.
Final tally for me was 15 or so crappie, a few gills and a medium size bass in about four hours; we left just before dark. I did really well with a Fiskas balance jig (hooks on either end) and a pink Polli on one hook. Two hour drive home but well worth it.
 My take home:

Last nights catch; same lake as above. They have a really nice olive shade due to the tannic stain. My favorite part:

Thanks guys. I do want to say that i put way more back than i keep. I jig for them and also use jawjackers. The jawjackers  are certainly great tools to have on the ice .  I recently got my hands on the new base Matt from jawjacker has put out.  This thing is incredible and very well built. For those of you who haven't heard about the base let me say that this thing comes with three jigging wheels. The base has a built in motor that when turned on provides a jigging action to your rod attached to your jawjacker The jigging action of this base will alow me to put some life into some of my favorite jigs.   I would say a must have for those times where dead sticking  just wont cut it. Attaching your jawjacker to the base is fairly simple and can be stored in the drawstring bag that comes with it. I'm excited to try out.
