Great pond
« on: February 16, 2011, 06:08:10 PM »
Walked the dogs tonight and there was a ton of no snow areas on the ice. I think the sleds have beat the snot out of the snow. ATV's should be good to go. I can't wait to use my ATV fishing. I can carry some much more so easily. It sounds so good I may go there Saturday morning and try to catch some of those perch and crappie.

How about Friday night? Anyone up for that???

That is too funny as I have a mother in law duty this weekend as well.

I'm sure my MIL days are soon to come, lol.

Fished for a couple hours yesterday. Caught 10 nice whites and just as many big crappie. Kept the whites to eat and let everything else go. Seemed like the whites and crappie disappeared and the bluegill moved in, in force.

Good luck this weekend everyone!

Cool, stop by and say hello if you get a chance. Probably won't keep any fish tomorrow either. Don't want to have to deal with them when I get home. Thank you though!

So I am sitting here listening to the wind outside questioning what the heck am I doing up right now.......Oh well me against the elements, so to say....Lets see if I still have it or if I'd rather sleep in, lol. Gonna be tough seeing the light bites on the spring bobber in this wind, lol.
I'll post any pics of note worth fish. But since I'll be jiggin pan fish your likely not to see any pictures.

Man o man was the wind blowing. I actually left the house about 20 minutes late as I was surfing online listening to the wind and saying go, no go, go, no go. Figured I was up so I went. First rod in had a salmo chubby darter in the bronze color. Heard good things about that color but never fished it. It got a lot of interest but only landed one crappie and a largemouth bass. I switched to a pimple and proceeded to ice some decent crappie and white perch with the pesky sunfish mixed in. Seems like a smaller school would be looking over the bait and boom a bigger fish would move in and hammer it. The bigger fish seemed spread out where the smaller ones were tightly packed. I caught a bunch of fish suspended about 8' off bottom. I was going to move to another area I always wanted to try and the wind kicked in high gear with a bit of a snow squall. Yup that was it for me. I was off the lake by 10:45.
Saw Jiffy out there with his charter. They had all packed into his shack when I left. I spoke quickly with Jiffy and they had some nice fish as well.
Kind of kicking myself for not going last night. The temp was so warm it would have been great out there.
Well Sunday is M-I-L duty and off to Winni-s on Monday. Maybe if the wind lets go this afternoon I'll sneak back out to my holes from this morning......though it isn't supposed to let go so I'm likely done for the day.
I took a picture of the fish I kept and I'll take another when I'm done cleaning them. A before and after look at the day, lol

Oh yeah I had artificials on but they seemed to want worms today.

Pictures of what I took home:

Results:

My cat loves crappie. He was bugging me big time while I was cleaning them up. Threw him a piece of white perch and he wanted nothing to do with it, lol.

Took the dogs for a walk to the park and Jiffy was still out there with the green horns at 2:45!
Unbelievable that someone new to ice fishing would put in that much time.
Maybe they just didn't know any better, LOL.

Jiffy said they had a pretty good day despite the wind, which is still howling......
I'm sure he'll post up a report.

hey spike...my buddy josh and i went out to onway last night to hang at his bobhouse....set up a few traps and it was perfect out until the wind came...sounded like a train...at one point you couldn't even stand up into the wind...traps blew right out of the hole....watched an incrediable light show around 9 pm...took me an hour to get from raymond to sandown...roads blocked due to down trees....jiffy way to hang tight...atleast it was pretty warm out...

I think I have a video on my site of a winni derby a few yrs back. I think it was either Friday or Saturday and the wind was cranking. That was one of the worst I have fished in. Other than derby fishing I try to avoid the big wind days.

OK I just checked and it isn't up there. I'll look for it and post it. It was taken by NHFishah and quite unbelievable.
