Maxi is a 1864 acre lake, with a max depth of 88ft. and Average depth of 24 ft. Maxi holds Walleye, Large mouth bass, Small Mouth Bass, Gills, Crappies, and Yellow Perch. Being Maxi is a large lake it is one of the last ones to have safe ice and one of the last to have ice most of the time. Early gill and bass action 1st start at the channels. Once ice is on the lake out and north of the boat launch are pretty good for perch and walleye. Academy bay is good for gills, perch, and if you venture to the west towards the beach good walleye action. Its a large lake with alot of fishing action just gotta find em. There used to be a bait shop close but no more to my knowledge so make sure you take bait. If Im wrong Maybe some other Indiana guys will chime in.

I heard thru the grapevine again, that there are guys out on 2" of ice on Maxi, I went to a small lake east of me this am and ice wasnt safe maybe an 1" up by the shoreline, I know that the ice could be thicker out further but Im no fan of getting wet or worse. Think Ill wait a few more days. I love eaten fish as much as the next guy but if you fall thru makes you think a little harder the next time. Ive got a pacemaker/defibulator implant and Im not wanting to find out what the shock of cold water would do to it :D. Be safe guys dont want to hear of a friend or fellow fisherman goen thru and getten wet or worse, just be careful.

Channels are good and locked up, maybe hitting this weekend, or tommorrow. Heard catching smaller gills, but big ones once in awhile.

They pick up some nice slabs out there, I haven't had alot of luck but have seen them caught, I don't get  *<>/ but for some reason the slabbies avoid me like the plague.  :? long walk to the spots to its almost to far for me to walk anymore, but hey fish n the belly.

I think I may go up there on Sunday. Is it frozen up enough by the boat dock?

I ha vent made it over there yet scooter, but my buddy has been over and told me ice was 6 in on the channel and I heard another report about 3 to 4" by the public boat launch, Just be careful and make sure you check the thickness with a spud and drill. Just take caution buddy if no one else around, don't want you getten wet or worse. Max as you probably know is one of the last to freeze and last to thaw most of the time. Good luck and wish you a Merry Christmas filled with all you want  &:  and a few fish on sunday to fill your belly. And a Happy and Safe New Year..... oh yes and welcome to the board post away and make sure you look at the charter membership its a great deal and support the site..... ;D

I fished Maxi today 1/16/11. Didnt catch squat, but the ice was 7"+ at the public boat ramp. Beautiful day to be out.
