Snowmageddon 1.19.19
« on: January 19, 2019, 05:17:48 PM »
Well so far today I have to report that this storm of the century is under performing. We have had a couple moments of heavier snow but nothing really less than half an inch in the Frances Slocum State Park vicinity. I will post updates tonight and encourage others to do the same. Maybe we will get thru this w/o too much pain, one can only hope for the best eh?

Just started here in the Lehigh Valley but I doubt many ice fishermen care what is going to happen here.  If we do get a significant "thump" up north, I wonder what it will mean for the ice conditions.  Seems like most lakes were just getting good.  Did I miss the best shot at nice ice with easy sled dragging?  I guess we will have to wait and see but we can speculate too while we are waiting.

Just went out and measured in the wide open driveway. We have just 2 inches so far. Just seeing that there is a warm up w/some rain coming on wednesday so a lot of this will be knocked down and then freeze could be manageable.

Looks like it could be about 4 here now too. Temp is holding steady at 28 degrees for hours now. snow wavers back and forth from sugar to small flakes. I'd love to see some sleet start soon.

I was at 6 inches at 12:50 with it starting to change over to sleety rain. Now this morning it is raining here and the snow is getting knocked down and totally saturated with water. I was never so happy to see rain. Look like I will be getting out the power auger this week. Anyone else getting rain?

It rained pretty hard at my house in Newton Twp.  I assume the rain and snow will freeze fairly solid on top of the ice already on the lakes, right?  I hope so.

I took a ride over to the State Park to test that idea, just got back. It is 12°, The snow that fell on Frances Slocum was so saturated this morning that it was grey. As of 3 pm you could walk on top of it. A little cracking under my feet but when I hit it with my heel expecting to break thru to the slush my boot just bounced off it. It will be frozen right thru to the ice by morning from
5 to 10 inches over night.
