Fords Pond
« on: January 02, 2018, 04:56:28 PM »
Fished on Fords Pond (or Lake as PFBC calls it) in Shultzville today.  Got skunked, but it didn't matter as this was the first time out this year.  One solid flag that took my bait, along with some wind flags.  Anyone else ice fish this place?  I've been here many times in the summer with good success for bass and panfish.

Never fished there but plan on it this year. What section of the lake did you try?

I fished the area just off the boat launch, FM.  Honestly was a bit hesitant to go too far out as it was the first time this year and I was the only one fishing.  I did have a couple of visitors who stopped by to check out the scene.

I took a drive to Fords Pond today.  The lake is completely frozen over, including the edges.  I didn’t have my spud but it looked to be 2-3 inches thick.  I stepped on the edge with one foot and it held weight.  Might be good to go soon if the weather cooperates.

Went back to Ford’s Pond yesterday.  Brought my spud and poked some holes.  It’s about 3 1/2 inches thick.  Two guys arrived and drilled a few holes and decided it was safe, so they fished.  Good sign for the new year.

So I finally got out on Ford’s Pond today, first time ice fishing this season (finally!). Had about 4.5 inches of ice.  I caught a couple of bass on tip-ups and that was it.  I stayed fairly close to shore as I was the only one on the lake and a little nervous.  A couple of guys showed up an hour later and went further out.  Looked like they were doing pretty good jigging for gills or crappie.  By that time I didn’t feel like moving.  Next time I’ll hit the better parts of the lake if the weather cooperates.
