PA Ice Conditions
« on: February 23, 2017, 05:38:52 PM »
I have gotten a few requests for my opinion on ice fishing this weekend. They all concerned whether the ice up by Belmont would be safe this Saturday.  Here are the temps from the last week at Uniondale.

These are the daytime temps for Uniondale (closest to Belmont) since last Saturday:
2/18 - 63, 65, 50, 48, 57, 61, Friday 62/ Friday night 52, Saturday 2/25 57 w/rain. The Fat Lady is singing.

I was upstate NY today and ice was bad or completely gone every lake or pond I passed. Temperatures are in the 60s and the days our longer. Sad to say....I agree with FM, the fat lady as sung!

Down in West Pittston this morning as flock after flock of Canadian Geese pass over head going north. The Fat goose is singing.

Check some of these temps coming, if the lake can hold up a few more days ,,, there may be some hope..

No doubt. I've seen them. My gear is still out and ready. Not going anywhere this weekend though. We will have to wait and see. I've gotten very tired of looking at weeks worth of great winter weather predictions then seeing them evaporate days before they are supposed to hit. Its pretty sad when a whole state full of lakes is down to one corner county to ice fish on. I've been having the time of my life fishing for channel cats on the susky this week. I'm not really sure I want to drive over an hour to catch a few dink perch when there are 30+ inch catfish waiting 15 minutes away.
