Ice Conditions in PA
« on: January 24, 2017, 08:30:07 PM »
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that there are probably very few spots in PA today that have unquestionably safe ice. I can think of a few places that might get hardened up by the end of the weekend that I might consider trying next Monday but I'm probably going to sit out this weekend and save myself for the rest of the season rather than risk everything for a few hours on marginal ice with a chance of dying. You PA guys, especially the casual guys who just get out a few times a year should pay heed. No one wants to watch a video of the divers looking for your bodies. We have all of February and probably a couple weeks of March to enjoy the ice. Please.

good advice FM. This Friday is supposed to be the start of another cold period but it'll take a little while to repair the damage done by this mess from the south.  oI
When Hell freezes over, I'll ice fish there too!

Not to say that I might not go around and do some ice inspections. Get some conditions reports for everyone. I can def check Moon and Lily. Frances Slocum is in my backyard so I can do a check on that one too. That's what were here for henna?

I stopped by Slocum yesterday.
Ice was Milky.
Big open area in front of spillway.
It wasent like that a few days ago.
Ice was still tight to the dam wall.

I am looking at the forecast and thinking about taking next Wed. off. Got plenty of vacation days saved up..................might use several for ice-fishing this year.

Dont know if i missed this in another thread but they pulled two bodies out of sandy pond this week up in oswego NY.  Good ice close to shore but less than an inch out in the middle.  Very sad and sobering lesson.

Patience guys, very promising forecast temp wise. Some of the local ponds and smaller lakes around here (Wallenpaupack area) should be OK by Tues/Wed.....might be worth checking on Sunday/ Monday. Be Safe!

Moon Lake needs a few more cold days. ice was 4" in some spots, but only 3" in others. Missed a couple pickerel, but was leery of fishing the spots I wanted to.
