Howdy
« on: January 07, 2017, 09:09:30 PM »
New guy just saying hello, have fished for many years but never ice fished yet--always an interest of mine and I have resolved to give it a go.  I recently spent a few days nursing a stained back, and watched lots of YouTube Ice Fishing videos.  That got me fired up, and this site has been very helpful as I try to figure out what's what.  I live near Wilkes-Barre so it looks like there are lots of local options, just a matter of making time to explore.  Love the info and laid-back attitude this community seems so willing to share...

I'm not all that close to you, but this is definitely a great place to meet new people and learn everything you need about ice fishing!

I have some very basic stuff--rod, reel, some jigs and swimmers (I usually fish artificials but realize I may need to rethink that philosophy under the ice), spikes for my shoes and to go around my neck.  I've always been into cold weather hiking so have some quality outdoor gear, but I think I will need to look into waterproof bibs or something if I get serious about it.  Looks like it could be an "equipment intensive" sport, but sometimes that's half the fun...

Try it out working with what you have. Most of us have enough to supply and army so you can see and tryout some different things and get an idea what you like. If anything make sure you have warm boots, a warm hat, and gloves.

Welcome ! Fleece lined jeans r a must! Think small jigs . Does not have to be expensive to get started . Meet up with some guys somewhere and they will help. I just made a quick run earlier grabbed meal worms  :? :?instead of my wax worms. Got on the ice told another guy what i did and he handed me a WHOLE CONTAINER OF WAX WORMS!! I told him to move closer to me cuz my flasher was lit up and he was having no luck where he was. Next thing we r both catching fish and great conversation! We both got out fished by my daughter though. Not sure u need water proof bibs but def. water proof boots.
