I will be cautiously optimistic.  Still planning a pocono trip Friday.

Fingers crossed! I just spent a lot of time driving to Jersey hunting striped bass it'd be nice not to have to drive 1.5 hours to fish in the Poconos.
Fish are like beer. I start to lose count after 10.

I'm 2-2.5 hrs to the Poconos. I have two local lakes 20 min. and one 30 min. that offer decent to good fishing. Now I'm just glad to see it's dropped to below freezing. :D

VC, I am in the same boat and we are probably thinking of the same two lakes.  It would be nice if I could pull off an afternoon trip to one of them next Tuesday.

Indeed; it would. Since I moved I am closest to Marsh and Struble with Hopewell about 10 min. further. Sure would be nice to have the option of a late afternoon into eve. run and still be home at a respectable hour. BTW did I meet you years ago on Mauch Chunk?

Wasn't there a local newspaper photographer chatting with us and taking pictures that day too?

Made a trip by Struble today, unfortunately the wind was keeping it wide open.  What ice had formed was all blown into the cove by the parking lot.  Not looking good for a local Tuesday afternoon trip.

Check in on Marsh Creek today. There was some ice to the right of the boat rental but nothing that looked fishable. The wind was nasty.

miller, Yes I remember that now. They ended up putting your picture in the paper for which you apologized. I could have cared less. Must have been awhile ago since I didn't have my fl-18 yet. ::) Thanks for checking Struble; I was going to run up there today but didn't make it. BTW, I heard there are guys fishing Peters at Ontelaunee though that doesn't really mean it's safe. Those guys go out on 2" so... :? Be safe everyone and lets hope what we have survives this next warm spell!

I got out yesterday for my first trip of '17.  I was in Lehigh County on about 3.5 inches of nice hard ice and all by myself fishing tipups with 4 inch shiners that 5 pickerel and 1 muskie were happy to beat up on.  In 3.5 hours on the ice I caught 6 fish and had 10 or 12 flags.  I have certainly had worse days.

The lake I was fishing had good ice on the cove I fished and open water on the main body of the lake. After last night's single digit temps I expect the rest of the lake is hardening up, but I won't see it again until next weekend.

Funny thing - I hadn't been on the ice long enough to set up one tipup and I was having a conversation with the local PA DEP Fishing Warden.  Good for him being out in the cold morning!

Good luck everybody, and be safe!
