I was at prompton this past Sunday to check the ice  and there was 4" at the boat lounch. I went straight out drilling holes every ten ft and about 40ft offshore I hit a spot with 3" and went back to shore. I plan on fishing it tomarrow afternoon. Since Sunday we had some good ice makin weather up here.

Made a couple trips to Prompton the past week or so. Ice conditions are good as of yesterday ( don't know what the rain will do to it tomorrow) with about 6" of ice with some snow on top. Lots of people out fishing. Enjoyed some milder weather, beautiful sunshine and the fish were pretty cooperative. I iced 4 pickerel, a smallmouth bass of about 16", some decent calico, about a half dozen nice perch, some respectable bluegills..............and the surprise of the day was a 15" brown trout that came out of nowhere to wallop my jig about 7 fee under the ice in 16 FOW. Perfect weather, I love the peace and solitude of a frozen lake in winter! Hopefully, the rest of the lakes on my bucket list will be locked up and good to go by the beginning of next week.

Do those Prompton browns come from stocking the lake or make their way in to the lake from by coming down the Laskawaxen?

I'm pretty certain they come from the Lackawaxen. That's at least the general consensus. But, he looked like he'd been in there a while and he fought tooth and nail the entire way!

Yeah Chez, you're right! I've fished prompton at night, specifically for calicos and absolutely nothing. Some of my best days for calicos there have been mid morning under a blue bird sky. Go figure.....

Sure! I'll shoot you a PM next time I head up. The mid lake area sees a lot of pressure, because it's so accessible, which is why I think the fishing is good in early January. Just my thoughts.

I agree with you guys with prompton bein better fishing in the early season. This pic is from 12-26-16. Took home 48 gills 3 largemouth 14",15" and a nice 19". I fish the dam side just a pain dragging a loaded sled up the hill.

I fish Prompton a lot in summer and winter, If I ice fish down past the cut on the channel side very early morning can do well with the Crappie but my bite shuts down around 9 am. I am not sure what happened but I was fishing the night bite from 4 pm to about 8 pm out from the launch and did very well with the crappie during the ice season, but got skunked last season, I could not connect with the night bite. Going to try a New weapon this year , got me one of those bright submersible Green LED lights, any body ever use one?
