Diamond Grips Traction on Ice
« on: December 13, 2016, 09:29:20 PM »
I just had a thought tonight while unpacking some get started gear. My original pair of Diamond Grips popped another wire. The traction diamond beads are strung on a piece of wire cable. I think it would be a good idea for me and anyone else who uses these to rinse them off after walking in salty ice in parking lots and along roads. Rust never sleeps, and it seems to like and feed on the cable on diamond grips. Just passing it along. BTW I take the broken section and re string it with bailing wire multiple wraps through the guides and they are working again albeit not as good.

That's one of the reasons I don't put them on til I get to the ice!  ;)  I took mine out of the bucket on Sunday and they looked almost as good as the day I bought 'em.

I had 3 problems with the screws in the bottom of my boots. The first one was that the heads would wear down flat from walking through the parking at some of the lakes I went to. I guess getting actual carbide studs would work better there. The seond was when I forgot about them and wore them when I was shoveling snow off my deck at home. Trashed up some of the boards. Gotta remember, they are for ice fishing only and I needed my boots for other winter activities. The 3rd problem was when I had them on and put on a set of snowshoes to get through some thick stuff. The screwheads pretty much messed up the bindings. Not too bad since I only did it once but a year of stomping around with them like that would have trashed my snowshoes. I like being able to take the creepers off when I want.
When Hell freezes over, I'll ice fish there too!

I did the screw-in thing on my Ice Fishing(only) boots for a few years. But then I bought the Diamond grips and took the screws out. I like the fact you can pop them on and off any boots. That way I can put them on my Merrels if the temps are warmer. Can even put them on my un-insulated boots if it is VERY warm! Much more versatile. And you don't tear up your floor mats or wood flooring with the screw-in boots!  :o
