Perch were shallow
« on: November 06, 2016, 08:55:12 PM »
I have not been chasing perch for quite some time. Went out yesterday to check on there location and get updates on my GPS coordinates. Well the perch were very shallow in 2 to 3 ft of water in the pads. The deeper water had a algae stain but the shallow water was relatively clear. Bait was flicking out of the water around the pads. Water temperature was 45F. No bait needed they smacked small emerald shiner marabou jigs all day. This was unusual for this time of the year. Mark

Nice catch Mark; should make for a great fish fry! Hoping to find my way up North this year to fish with you and some of these other characters. That said I moved farther West, so if we had a real winter I am closer to several decent lakes. Tight lines!

Glad to be seen; or heard. Slowly scoping out my gear while dealing with the joys of home ownership. Getting ready to mount a ceiling exhaust fan in the  bathroom; plaster ceiling of course. ::) Unfortunately the same kind of work I do for a day job....Still waiting for Mark to take me to one of his honey holes. ;)

Fred, glad to hear from you! Congrats on the new home. I hope all is well with you and your wife. When you feel the urge for a Pocono run this winter just let me know. This is the only site I chat on anymore (both open water and ice fishing). Really like it. Mark

Hey Mark.
I almost never ask where, even if I do it's out of intellectual curiosity and don't move in on someone's spot. I really prefer to do it myself. I am however interested in the way you happened to find these fish so shallow. It doesn't seem like you expected to find them there. Alooking how did you approach them w/of spoofing them. There's a story there!

Thanks Mark! Crazy busy right now, but always feast or famine in the construction world. This winter has to be better than last for ice; our bird bath was frozen pretty tight this am so that's a start. Hope all is well with you and yours and that you continue to find those tasty pan fish!

FM, we followed the channel towards the feeder creek. The pads were on both sides of the channel. Noticed bait surfacing all over around the pads and the water clarity was greatly improved. Tossed the jigs toward the bait and there they were! Thought we might get skunked before that. I saw the Pack had the algae as well the other week? Seems late for that but I guess the weather patterns are changing. Here is the jig we used. Mark

Nice; I'm working on some Maribou jigs myself. Technically they are flies; tungsten bead head on a no.12 caddiss hook. A little extra lead on the shank for weight. I do like your use of Krystal Flash, Mark.
