Define small. White Oak was what I call a small lake. The DEP drained it. There have been guys hammering it so bad that they get bored and go other places for the challenge and it is still producing fish.

Too many variables involved to say imo. Anything will breakdown if it gets pushed hard enough. But what one guy thinks of a broken someone esle will think is just fine. I hear it all the time on the Susquehanna River. The fishing isn't as good as it used to be is a common complaint. but to me it is just fine. Is there a point to this topic?

Just curious. I've fished a couple of small impoundments and caught some nice fish. Then it gets hammered on. Then I go back and can't get a thing. I know a few guys that keep everything they catch and fish for days on end.

Its hard to judge using anecdotal experience. You might have hit it on a couple good days and then a couple bad ones. I've had times like that on some walleye lakes. Could just be the old saying, "sometimes you're hot, sometimes you're not".

I think mother nature alone plays more of a toll than us fisherman
Water temp change ...invasive species...water levels...as far as fishing and keeping ..
I would say canadarago lake was def effected on by fishing ....it's the greed of the sale before it's the limit's allowed to put In  the freezer...I believe they were netting this lake at one point just for the sale...that sure can screw things up...like fishing sandy pond now...get a 10" fish and start jumping up and down...lol
good topic grumpy way to try to start a conversation on new York side of this site  ;D  ;)

Exactly. Greed will hurt. Heck I throw back 10inch perch. These guys don't. I can't even get a crappie because these guys 7 of them pounded the place.

Best part about NY is our options on so many lakes...I think the Internet has yet to show its damage...think our next generation will see that issue..it's great to show guys other bodies of water but to post limits daily...think it throws out the wrong idea ...funny part about that is when you show your face with limits you need a long stick to swat the lurker away  :+ ;D

Well interesting. I just wanted some opinions from other ppl. That might of experienced the same thing. It's not that I can't catch fish. It just seems the numbers have decreased in the three small lakes I fish.

I have fished some smaller lakes that I have fished all my life, that doesn't get pressure from fisherman and, see the numbers of fish go down. The lakes have been stocked with northerns to control pickeral....I believe the pike have the panfish and perch on the run and skittish so the panfish and perch won't hold in an area long enough to catch them. Just an observation on my part, after the DEC stocked these lakes...great thread grumpy!

Thanks KP. Agree about the predators. These lakes I fish aren't stocked. But I've seen where guys have caughten short crappies thrown um back and the next day you can se
e them belly up under the ice. 25-30 at a time.

I fish a fair sized reservoir and it is a hot bed for ''foreigners'' shall we say and if it comes out of the water it goes in the bucket! I realize that panfish have no size limit but crappies do, and when we are fishing right beside these folks and are throwing back short crappies and they are filling their buckets it makes my blood boil! These people ice fish it almost everyday and a lot thru the spring and summer. We used to be able to go there in the spring and catch a limit of crappies in a few hrs when they were in. But now you can fish half the night and maybe land half a dozen keepers. So, I would say they are having an impact.
