Well it (finally) came in! Got the text this morning. Gonna stop on the way home and pick it up. Just in time to test out on Saturday!  8)

Well, after multiple trips and exactly 52 holes in an avg of 9" of ice, I finally exhausted one 5.o AH battery!  :o  My unit came with 3 batteries, so I doubt I will EVER test it to the limit!  8)

I have a Makita 18v and a Clam plate; which I got from Dicks when they had the 25% off coupon. Unfortunately it only came with a pair of 2ah batters which is fine for my work. I just ordered a 6ah on line. Might try it out tomorrow, even though the ice is fairly thin around here. I'll keep them warm and have the handle with if I need it.

So the drill set up worked great and I got 11holes out of a 2ah battery through 5.5-6" of ice. I'm sure it had plenty left as the indicator said 3/4 charge. Sadly, (NOT!) I landed on fish on my second set of holes so further testing was postponed. I did receive 6ah battery but haven't got out again. BTW, you guys probably know this but these batteries are pretty cheap on e-bay especially compared to Home Depot or major box store.

My new Dewalt $99 drill with Lithium batteries failed me on my new clam conversion plate, I later learned I needed at least 600" pounds torque and a heavier duty battery for my clam plate and 7" strikemaster auger.
After much research I bought the Milwaukee Fuel M18 that has 1200" pound torque and 5 AMP batteries, drilled 40 holes through 8" ice and still had 3/4 battery left-WOW, that was awesome!  Even though I read some places the Milwaukee M18 Fuel lithium batteries are rated for cold weather, Each time I finished drilling a set of holes I placed the battery in my inside coat pocket as extra assurance.   No more gasoline, pulling ropes and lugging the much heavier gas auger! The clam and M18 was worth the expense!
