I must have been a blacksmith in a past life! I found this video very interesting. If I had the stuff I'd be makin' these things all day long.

Have an Ice Day!

I have a few buddies out in Western PA that are into that sort of stuff. One buddy made a beauty of a knife out of a 1/2" bolt, added an antler handle and made a sheath out of a snappin turtles tail. The thing was awsome. I was gonna try a spike 'hawk myself, even collected a few high carbon spikes from old rail beds. Just never got going on it cuz it would turn out to be just another hobby I don't have room for, LOL! If you end up wanting to give it a try let me know and I'll look around for those spikes, I'm pretty sure I still have them... somewhere...
When Hell freezes over, I'll ice fish there too!

I actually have a propane forge set up in my yard and am a member of the American Bladesmith Society that made that video. Im a real rooky tho and am just learning. My anvil is an old bridge bearing set in a bucket of concrete. I love watching the stuff too

When I was in high school we made a bunch of stuff, mostly chiseles, a knife is a whole different thing because you have to keep folding the steel back onto itself and heat and hammer it back to one piece it takes a lot of time and most importantly the experience to do it thats why a handmade knife can be very pricey, it can take months to make a samari sword by a skilled craftsmen
