Do these new inline reels have a drag on them?
From their web site..." A liquid-smooth four bearing drive system combined with a multi-setting drag enhance performance even during the worst winter conditions. "

does the line lay evenly on the spool when you reel in or do you manualy have to make the line lay evenly?

The spools are narrow and you are using mono or ice braid as line. The reels do not have a mechanism for walking the line back and forth but the physics of the reel spools the line neatly.

Ive seen very good points on both sides especially geedub sayin easier with gloves on. I mean thats important how many days is it so cold u dont want to remove the gloves lol. Now im seein some benefits but my next question is I have 3 fly reels (ebay hongkong specials) cost me like 3 bucks with shippin they have a gear drag. If I scrape the grease out but some good cold westher grease in there whats difference between that and the inlines made for ice fishing seems the same but I could be whrong. Also guys using them is it straight mono or do u use a backing like a fly reel.

blurr, they are the same but different ??? just like fly reels you can have $3 cheapo's and $200 works of art. One main difference is the ice reels tend to have a longer stem, fly reels tend to sit low flush to the rod. many common fly reels have the crank handle mounted right to the spool. 1:1 ratio. The better ice reels are gear driven and can go 2:1 and higher. I think I saw one that was something like 7:1 ! :o  Since most guys only jig in 10 to 30 ft of water you can pack the reel with tip up line or mono or braid and finish with say 50 ft of any ice line you want. At least that's how I plan to do mine once I get in the order. I like the eagle claw reels, prolly get 2. I might need another pole too though, forgot it was in the bucket and sat on it yesterday. ::)

one more ?. can i just put a spool of 2-4 lb test a 100 or 125 yd spool and fill it to fish with. or is the reel going to be half empty. i buy my ice line  in 100 and 125 yd spools. i dont like to have to put 200 yds on my ice reels.

Why fill it? just put on what you think you need. Spinning reels that get used open water need to be properly filled to maximize the casting distance. If the maximum depth that you fish is 30 or 40 fow put on 100 feet of line. I wouldn't fill one unless I need the line to get to bottom.

Sure but the spool diameter is already big and if you have one of the geared up models you are cranking high velocity. Fish will fly outta the hole so fast you'll get a flasher concussion.

another point about the better ice reels over the cheapo fly reels is that the better gear driven reels can free spool so dropping your lure or jig is easier. Doesn't realy matter much if you are fishin at 10ft deep but for deeper lakes it could make things much easier.
