Electronics- one hole or 2?
« on: November 24, 2015, 08:03:26 AM »
Saw on Chez's Lake Trout video that one of the guys was using 2 holes side by side- one for the flasher and 1 to jig in.

Just wondering what the pros and cons are? I assume with 2 holes it's primarily so you don't have to pull the transducer when you bring the fish up(so you don't get the line tangled in the transducer cord.)

And the con would be having to drill twice as many holes when jigging.

Any other things to consider?

Does it hurt the signal not having it directly directly over your lure?

The holes are close together so the lure is in the signal cone and gets picked up just fine. I don't normally drill two holes when I'm prospecting. If I get into a very hot spot I do sometimes but more often than not I just use one hole. I also don't always lift the transducer out of the hole when I'm landing a fish. You sort of know when you have a trophy hooked and in those cases I do take the time to pull out the trans. I personally like knowing that the transducer is centered right over the bait I'm fishing. Another side issue of this is that two guys or in my case me and my son can fish on the same unit using three holes putting the flasher in the middle hole and each rod on the side holes. when you want to see which mark is yours just move the bait. BTW I sent you a PM did you see it?

I use the 3 hole method when I'm fishing with my son and one hole if I'm by myself

I like a dead stick along with jigging.
Like FM said,if i find a hot spot ,i will drill 3 holes, and when i settle in for the nite in my clam allways 3 holes.pyramid pattern.finder on top.
Great your gunna have a flasher on top this year Rut.
You were hitting the perch and calico without one last year :)
Gunna be a bit more fun with a flasher.

Two or more in the shanty, just one for prospecting.

Pyramid pattern? you mean 2 holes side by side at the "base" of the pyramid and one on the "point" or top of pyramid with the transducer in it?

"Pyramid pattern? you mean 2 holes side by side at the "base" of the pyramid and one on the "point" or top of pyramid with the transducer in it? "

That's what I do when I'm set up for Calico at night.  To save space I tuck the transducer cord under the flasher so the flasher pretty much sets over the top hole.  Use 2 rods, one actively jigging and the other set with a live fathead on a bare hook.

You have to check the flasher hole occasionally on the super cold nights cuz the transducer cord will become frozen into that hole, had to chip it out more than once.

2 holes for me.  1 for the transducer and another to fish through.  That way, you dont have to pull the transducer out to prevent the line from tangling around it when you land the fish.

I move around a lot. I drill just one. But if I find a honey hole I might set up with 2 holes but usually I just fish one.
When Hell freezes over, I'll ice fish there too!

3 holes in line the width of my shack. Transducer in center hole with two rods rigged. One I'm jigging with, the other baited and ready!😎
