Erie Small Mouth Trip
« on: September 03, 2011, 11:33: PM »
Finally dave313747 and I made it to Eastern Erie Buffalo NY fishing with Terry Jones of First Class Bass Charters.  And First Class it is!  Terry made you feel like you were old friends ( he even asked if we would like to drive the boat) and continually put you on BIG fish.  We lost count of the number of fish we put in the boat, a conservative number of bass would be 25.  They ranged fronm 3# to 5#-4oz.  We even caught some big drum (10# range) that doubled the pole and made the drag talk. Although we target the smallmouth..those drum were fun none the less.  The gear we used was top of the line and he was not stingy with the bait.  We used plastics and live craws.  When the craw looked tired Terry was handing you another craw.  He was always telling you about the different views of the city and what they were..very interesting.  His knowledge of bass fishing is PHD level.  I learned so much on this trip...we will be back! >>}}};*>  ;D

I may have to look him up.   Those are some chunks.   What kind of fight did they put on.   A 2# smallie puts up a good fight..   A 5#2oz beast must feel like jet ski.

The fight is exactly the way you imagine.  They are all over the place when hooked; then you have to reel fast because they are heading to the top and jumping.  The drum were fun also; they would dive and dive putting a huge bend in the rod.  I thought a couple of time the line would snap.  This trip was all about big fish and plenty of them!

He can fit 3 guys BUT 3 would be crowded.  It is $350.00 for the boat.

$350 for the boat, plus tip, right?  Definitely worth it, seeing those fish, but I half to admit, I was distracted by that boat and the fancy minn kota i-pilot trolling motor and control fob around Terry's neck, MAN! I wish I could afford one of those.

Who has the quote as their tag..."if smallmouths were the size of cars...bass boats would be just another buzz bait", seems like on Lake Erie they're gettin' there.
