Make a Homemade Lure Retreiver

Make a Lure Retreiver

Think about all those great looking lures that you have lost to snags.  Don't get too depressed because with a little ingenuity you can have a lure retreiver that costs much less than what you would spend on just one lure.  Materials for this project are easily attainable at any hardware store

           Materials Needed:                                                                                                  Tools Needed:

       1. A 4 inch piece of 1/2" PVC pipe                                                                             1. A hacksaw or tubing cutter
       2. Two (2) 1/2" PVC end caps                                                                                   2. Drill with 1/4" Bit
       3. Two (2) eye screws                                                                                                3. Pliers or vise grips
       4. A foot long piece of metal chain
       5. One 1/4 X 20 bolt long enough to pass through the PVC and 2 pieces of chain
       6. One 1/4 X 20 nut to hold the bolt and chain on to the PVC
       7. PVC Cement
       8. One large coast-lock snap
       9. A 25' piece of cord

Step 1 - Cut a 4" piece of PVC pipe for the body of the lure retreiver.
Step 2 - With the PVC cement glue the end caps on to the body.
Step 3 - Insert an eye screw into each of the end caps.
Step 4 - Drill a 1/4" hole through the middle of the body.
Step 5 - Cut the chain into 3 equal pieces.
Step 6 - Attach 2 of the pieces of chain to the body of the lure retreiver using the 1/4 X 20 nut and bolt.
Step 7 - Attach the other piece of chain to the rear screw eye by opening the eye with pliers inserting the chain and closing the eye.
Step 8 - Attach the Duo-Lock snap to the front end of the lure retreiver (using the small end of the snap on the screw eye)

To use the lure retreiver tie the cord to the same screw eye as the duo-lock snap is attached.  Snap the duo-lock snap over your fishing line that has the snagged lure attached.  Play out the cord until the lure retreiver hits the snagged lure.  Sometimes just the lure retreiver hitting the lure will free it, other times the chain must get tangled with the hooks and you use the cord to pull the lure free.  Granted it bends the hooks, but hooks are a lot easier to replace than expensive lures.  Thank you for reading.  Hope this helps.  Tight lines!.

I have a similiar lure retriever that's just a 5oz weight with 2 or 3 chains...same concept and they work.  I'll take a pic and post it tomorrow.  ,O'
