Pine Creek 5.22-23.10 (part1)
« on: May 25, 2010, 02:42: PM »

Well the weekend at Pine Creek was a load of fun. You should have packed your tents and come along. We didn't see any rattlers this time but we did see turkey, deer, fawns, eagles, lots of wild flowers and beautiful scenery. The creek was full to the grass lined banks with just a slight tinge of stain. There were lots of guys scattered along the creek fishing. We were way out numbered by the fly fishing species. It was so laughable that we started referring to our selves as wormies. I knew that the Pine was highly regarded by fly fishing enthusiasts but never realized how many people traveled from afar to fish it. We encountered fly guys from Washington, DC and Western NY in our travels and saw licence plates from all over the northeast. The weather was decent, not too hot, and in the evenings a sweat shirt was enough to keep comfortable. It rained off and on Saturday evening and there was a pretty good downpour on Sunday afternoon but nothing that couldn't be taken in stride. The food was great, surf and turf w/baked potato and grilled portabellas on Saturday and grilled chicken wings and corn on the cob Sunday. I kicked off my Corona and lime summer drinking season and just had a great time "man camping" as my wife described it. The fish were tough not a single fish on a spinner. All trout came on baby crawlers, with a couple hits and one nice rainbow on "I found 'em on the road" helgramites. There were lots of freshly minted silvery rainbows. We also had a few nice fat bows with higher backs and much more colorful than those others. Then, there were the browns. We got 4 and each one was treat they were bigger and the colors were awesome! very yellow and vividly marked. I heard of one 21" bow caught and a monster brown missed while were there. All in all a great couple days. I have way more pics than you will want to look at . I'll try to be frugal with them. Part2 to come later this week.

The brown tree pictured is a sycamore tree. The banks of pine creek are lined with them. Normally they are beautiful tall and striking in their appearance. This spring there was a big freeze, about 2 weeks ago that killed all the leaves on the sycamores. For miles and miles up and down the creek these trees, the walnuts and others have been laid baren by the frost.

Yes nice trout indeed, did you eat any of them?  I know when I'm camping I like to devour a few of what I catch, MAN CAMPING!  Survival!
