Keeping chubs in hot weather.
« on: May 25, 2006, 03:21: PM »
I have a small pond out back behind my garage that is spring fed & only dries out in drought conditions. It is shaded by hemlocks & the water is always cold. I have had trouble keeping chubs in hot weather because I was keeping them in a flow through container in the crick that is always in the sun & also not large enough. I have a heavy poly barrel that wasn't doing anything so I drilled a lot of smalle holes in it, made a quick lid for it & put it in the small pond.

Now when I trap the chubs in the creek I have a place to store a lot of them in the summer heat. I have some small ones in with the larger ones & I took a quick scoop & I got these.

I intend to get someone in here with a back hoe & dig that area out to make a much larger pond.
