Strike Indicators for Bank Fishing.
« on: April 28, 2006, 03:40: PM »
I have used all sorts of things to help me dectect bites especially when night fishing. When I was a kid we would cut a 4 or 5 inch piece of a branch, something around a quarter of an inch thick and then with our pocket knife, put a slice int one of the ends aimed towards the end. We could then hook this stick onto our line and watch it for subtle movements in our line. If we got a good bite the stick would fly off when we ste the hook. Lately, I have been using pinch clothspins in the same way. I have been experimenting with where I put the clothes pin, out at the end of the rod or by the reel. And, I have been tring different way of attaching it to the line also, directly pinched on or pinched so it slides freely on the line.

For night fishing I use glow sticks. There are all sorts of ways to fasten them to your rod, but plain old electrical tape works well, and if you take it off when you are finished for the night you'll not get any residue on the rod. You can get glow sticks in lengths from 1.5" up to 8". I use the 8" variety because they also fit my Kat bobbers.
