Lehigh River Report 4.15.12

Spent a few hours knocking around in the Gorge with the kids this afternoon. I managed two browns, one on a Thomas spinner and another on a saltie. Very low water as has been noted. Not a bad thing for me and the kids they could play w/o getting swept away and I didn't have to don my waders. There was a hatch of some magnitude happening. They were some sort of light brownish bug with a wingspan of about .5 inch. They would come off the water and drop back down on it re

The hendricksons are hatching!!!

I got a call from a good friend of mine saying he was heading up the Delaware to fish the Hendrickson hatch. Now if you are a fly fisherman you know that the Hendricksons are one of the first may flies to take flight. This year being unusually warm the flies started hatching about a month ahead of time.  As we sat and watched the river we didn't notice a single fish rising so we talked it over and decided that we would go back to the car and get ready and hopefull

Pine Creek Browns 5.24.11

This is the last of the pics from my 3 night, 2 day and 2 half day camping trip to the Pine Creek Gorge. The Big Pine was a raging torrent when I drove in you can see the high water line in one of these pics and how the water looked 4 days later. It was Tuesday the 24th and I had to get packed for the trip home. I got up early and went to a spot below the village of Slate Run and just within the DLHAO area. I figured woud give me the best chance of hooking up in the still h

Cedar Run Headwaters 5.23.11

After my morning at Stoney Fork and the stocked rainbows I decided to down size my waters and my quarry and go for a few brookies up in the headwaters of Cedar Run. One of the questions I have about my visit to Kettle Creek is where were the brook trout? As I stated I'm no slouch at spotting a fish in a crick. lol I was not walking cedar run more that 100 yards before I spotted one dart from a small pool to hide underneath an aging undercut hemlock. There was no doubt

Kettle Creek 5.22.11

Here is a slide show from the side trip I took to Kettle Creek last weekend. I'll add some commentary later today.

So , I started out way up the creek in the head waters. This creek has about 8 decent sized mountain cricks that come together so that even at this point it is a fair sized creek. All the rain we had made for a full stream, lots of run off still coming down the mountainsides. I didn't get any trout in this upper section which is supposed to
